The Accora Training Team

March - April

Skin & Tissue Assessment – when is the right time to use an air mattress?

This training session explores how clinicians can help pre-empt pressure damage happening to the skin before there is any visible damage. We can do this by understanding the process of assessing the skin and its functions. In doing this we will have a better understanding as to when to start utilising air mattresses for prevention of pressure ulcers.

Learning outcomes:

  • To understand the SSKIN bundle and how this supports the
most important aspects of pressure ulcer prevention.
  • To recognise the early warning signs of pressure damage &
what actions must be taken immediately.
  • To recognise the key primary factors that can increase the risk
    of pressure ulcer development.
  • To understand other factors that might impact further on the risk.

Sarah Thompson, TVN

Lower limb care, prevention, and management of oedema

Within care home settings, clinicians have education and are aware of prevention of pressure ulcers but there is minimal training and education about the lower leg, and prevention of problems occurring, and treatment strategies around this. In this training session we will look at oedema in the lower leg and the problems this can cause if not identified early and treated accordingly.

Learning outcomes:

  • To understand what oedema and chronic oedema is and what causes it.
  • To recognise what to look out for in the lower limb to help prevent
    problems occurring.
  • To understand the affect, it has on individuals.
  • To recognise how to maintain good leg health.
